For Arte Fiera Off 2012, Spazio Labo’ has organized “Uncommon Intimacy: four women photographers and the New York school” an exhibition which opens on Friday January 27th at 6:30 p.m. at Spazio Labo’ | Center of Photography, via Frassinago 43/2 c-d in Bologna. The exhibition will be on view (free admittance) until the 28th of February.
The exhibition, part of the 2012 Arte Fiera Off program, is curated by Laura De Marco and Erica McDonald and for the first time in Italy presents the work of four American photographers. The artists are: Juliana Beasley, Erica McDonald (who is also co-curator), Amy Stein and Amy Touchette.
The project aims to highlight the contribution of the female component in visual arts, and specifically in photography. A rare intimacy constitutes the common theme of the visions of the four photographers in this publication, highlighting the particular sensibility, typically feminine, that is the common denominator of these projects realized during long term photographic investigations.
A direct and objective eye, that of a silent and detached observer which maintains a subtle and intimate connection with his subject, characterizes the poetic of Beasley, McDonald, Stein and Touchette. They are authors from the same generation who share a geographical proximity, living and working in New York City, the place where they grew professionally, a place that has influenced and still has a profound influence on photography.

"Women in Multimedia" will be the title of a rich selection, curated by Laura De Marco and Erica McDonald, of multimedia projects by some of the most important women photographers on the international scene.
The Multimedia Night is realized in collaboration with a series of important international partners: Slideluck Potshow, Daylight Magazine, FlakPhoto.com, DEVELOP, Panos Pictures and Prospekt. Special thanks to Food for Your Eyes and Vivian Maier/John Maloof Collection.
